191 - Freaking English Patient

I recently got assigned The English Patient in my Literature of the Historical Moment class (a class I swear whose reading list had been determined by Oprah's Book Club). I'd not heard good things before hand because my mother had seen the movie when it came out and had had no hesitation in telling everyone she could how awful it was. She'd hoped the book was good enough that her son wouldn't want to fling it out the window if he didn't fling himself first. Sorry to disappoint you mother. I cannot begin to describe what a boring, self-indulgent, meandering piece of crap this book is. I feel nothing but pain and rage having to read it and I'm barely halfway through. For those of you that own a copy, try this as a little experiment. Pick any random point in the book, and then skip ahead fifty pages. I GUARANTEE you will have missed nothing important.

There is something amusing though. I got my copy on Amazon for one cent...ONE CENT. So many of copies had been sent out by Oprah's cult of bullshit to bookstores and airports across the world that that's what the worth of a copy is now.

And we have to watch the movie next week in class (groans). SOMEBODY SHOOT ME.
